Identifying a postcard

Identifying the age of a postcard or deltiology is important for collectors of postcards.

The White Border Period (1915-1930)

During this era, a significant portion of postcards in the United States were produced. In an effort to conserve ink, a distinct border was maintained around the image area, earning these postcards the moniker of “White Border” cards. This time was marked by the production of lower quality cards, attributable to the high costs associated with labor, a lack of experience, and shifts in consumer preferences. Additionally, intense rivalry within a contracting market led to the closure of numerous postcard publishers.
