Carl Andelfinger & Co

Based in Munich, Germany.

They were in business from 1899. It is disputed when they cease operations. Some sources suggest operations ceased around 1930, possibly due to the economic collapse in Germany and the decline of postcard popularity after WWI. However others note the name or company registration lingered until 2011, though it is unclear if this reflects ongoing business activity or just a dormant registration. Not known when they stopped.

They also traded on a wealth of related material and office supplies and stationery. Contemporary adverts mention advertising material and posters, artistic prints, restaurant menus, programmes, brochures, business cards.

Carl Andelfinger & Co. utilized a diverse range of printing techniques, indicating a modern and technically proficient print shop:
  • Typography (letterpress)
  • Halftone collotype
  • Halftone lithography
  • Photogravure (héliogravure)
  • Embossing
  • Multicolor printing (often a hallmark of quality postcard publishers)
